What does the job entail?
Mad Science instructors lead groups of elementary and preschool aged children through hands on, interactive science demonstrations. It is their responsibility to make sure that all children are working with the equipment in the appropriate way, are engaged by the topic, and are having fun.
Where would I be going to do these classes?
Mad Science is a franchise company. This particular branch of Mad Science does business throughout Gloucester, Camden, Burlington, Mercer, half of Middlesex, Somerset, Hunterdon, and Warren counties in New Jersey. We also do business in Bucks and Montgomery counties in Pennsylvania as well as in the city of Philadelphia. Where you live will determine the places you will be sent. We do try to keep you as close to your home as possible.
How many hours a week could I work?
Your schedule determines how many programs you can be assigned to. Most instructors teaching our after school programs work between 2 and 4 afternoons per week. Our birthday party instructors must be available at least 2 full weekends per month but may make themselves available for additional days. We do have instructors that teach both our after school programs and our birthday parties simultaneously.
Do instructors have to create their own lesson plans? Do we receive training?
No, instructors are given prearranged lesson plans to follow. Mad Science also trains new instructors on the material they will be teaching so that these instructors can gain comfort and ease with each topic and the equipment.
What is the pay for this job?
Instructors earn $25-35 per program. Each program lasts about 1.5 hours—15 minutes for set up, 1 hour for the program, and 15 minutes for clean up. In addition, Mad Science offers a partial mileage reimbursement policy.

"I enjoy working for Mad Science because I like the idea that one of my presentations might spark an interest in science in a child that could, someday, blossom into a person who could find a cure for cancer, or be on the first manned mission to Mars, or just patch up some child's sick pet. I'd just like to make a difference, and Mad Science offers that opportunity."
